Without trying to repeat or quote myself. The solutions you mentioned have already been explored and none of them would push us in the right direction at this point in time. I will not be implementing anything new that will add stress to our current situation. if you have any ideas to help the situation at hand, I will look at each and everyone of them. As like every project, we are forced to work within a budget and do our best with the equipment that we have. Hardware is being acquired and will be installed as soon as possible. I could go into ellaborate detail about our current setup and about what we plan to do to fix the problem. All they want to know is when it will be fixed. the majority of the people here, could care less about the details of the solution that we are putting into place to solve the problem. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that your post started out to be helpful and not a plain straight rant about the time we put in to keep this place running (which happens to be out of our own free time). Note This post didnt start off as a rant, however I do acknowledge thats how it ended Or even Close these forums/data base and experiment on a server that would not affect bimmerforums.Īlso, has the idea of trimming inactive users ever been tossed around? When looking at the user list I saw lots of Zero-post, last log-in A'bazillion'years'ago. Say 3am? when most of the users are not online? However from past posts, you will reply back with something in the nature of 13gigs, too many users. bimmerforums with the Vb forums, simply dose not have the uptime as other sites with heavy traffic, post count, member count etc etc etc. I've tried and cutting the stats left, right, up, down. How much money dose the server cost a month?Īnd from the tracert I see that your now on theplanet, last night traffic as going 6 different ways and not ending up at the planet.ĭo the bimmerforums simply run on the most barebones system? What is the cpu? Ghz? single or duel?Īnd not to dig into your financials, I wonder, As far as I know its the CPU unable to handle quarries. Maybe you tell us the weak point of the server. With a community of this size, I'm sure their would be a number of people that would be able to help out. I think people are tired of being treated like children and grow weary of the 'fluf,' "we are fixing it," posts. but just because you have tackled a whopping 7 vB installations, don't think we are going to run out and implement every one of your suggestions at the drop of a hat. If you have suggestions, I'd be glad to look at them. however, we are playing it by ear and learning as we go along making the best out of the equipment that we have available to us. I'm sure in your 7 vB installations you've managed to tackle every plausible option and handled forums from their infancy up to million and millions of posts with various degrees of hardware starting with a single server config up to clustered setups. We are in communication with the people at vB and are taking steps as are recommended for our forum. I've done 7 VB installs, and the only time I've ever seen the server to busy was when their where not enough connections allowed in MySQL.ĭo you ever ask, read about how to help elevate these issues on the Vb forums? Thanks for the vote of confidence Maybe its time to lean out your MySQL commands? or even up the ammount of connections that is allowed? Hey, admins take some time and look into Then again, I dont think to highly of the BF.mods/admin when it comes to 'tweeking,' of the forums for ease of use.īleh, this forums still look like the basic vBulletin install + CMPS. I wounder if BF could use the iRam to help speed up the hard-drive quaries. How much analysis dose it take to see what is maxing out? CPU? RAM? DiskIRQ ?
